<title>3 Precautions to Take When a Storm Hits

<image>Storm preparation can be an important regimen for Florida homeowners. Although the first tropical storm has already occurred this year (remember Hurricane Alex??) hurricane season typically occurs between June 1-November 30. Multiple meteorologists are anticipating the amount of this season’s storms to be above average. Yet, there is no real connection between number of storms and number of landfalls in the United States. So it is uncertain as to what type of season we will actually have.

Notes
The original post was missing 5 important SEO factors:

  • No keyword in title
  • No heading with keyword
  • No keyword in first sentence
  • No keyword in image ‘Alt’ tag

The original post had no reference to Air Conditioning, so it wasn’t performing for the client’s keyword. We re-wrote the title to be under 70 characters and include the keyword ‘Tampa Air Conditioning Storm Preparation’ . There was no Heading in the original post, so we added an H2 including the keyword. The keyword was not in the first paragraph sentence, which is an important SEO factor. We added a new sentence with the keyword to the beginning of the first paragraph. One content image existed, which is important for SEO, but it’s ‘Alt’ tag was missing the keyword, so we added that.

There are secondary SEO issues with this post:

  • Text copy below the recommended minimum of 300 words
  • No outbound links (wikipedia.org, energy.gov)
  • Keyword missing from URL slug
  • No internal links (link to similar posts on the same website)

We added another paragraph of copy to get the post up to 478 words. We added a link to  CDC.gov about flooded AC units. We changed the URL slug to include the keyword, then searched the website and updated and references to the page url. We added an internal link to another post about weather and AC units.

Make your content snippable.
Try to get in Position Zero (Google’s mobile snippet above Ads)
You have to make Google see what a great supply of answers you have. Try to use the inverted pyramid formula to structure the data:

  • Start with the most important information to answer the question (longtail keywords)
  • transit to more details beyond the direct answer and add visual support;
  • wrap up with examples or case studies.

Page Content Formatting:

Paragraphs: Think of a short summary to answer a potential question that is 40-50 words. Format this content in a paragraph HTML tag <p> and post this paragraph right under the heading for the question.

Tables: Google often includes tables into featured snippets, as tabular data is easier to understand for computers, unlike natural language. So when it is relevant, add tabular data or reformat suitable paragraphs into tables. Mark up the tablular data on your page using the <table> tags.

Lists: Give your list a title that includes the targeted keyword phrase, and format this title as an H2 or H3 heading. Organize your article into steps or subheadings, and format those subheadings as H2, H3, or H4 headings. Google can will often make its own list in the SERPs out of well formatted text, so logically formatting your text can reap big rewards in regards to SERP placement. Google could possibly snip your subheadings and list them in the SERP, greatly improving your SEO results.

Create an FAQ or Q&A page.

Author a frequently asked questions page, otherwise known as a questions and answers page. Create a ‘definition list’ of questions and answers. A ‘Definition List’ is a type of HTML List element with the core list tag of <dl>, then a term/definition pair of tags: term tag of <dt> and the definition tag of <dd>.
